There are many reasons for the increase in student centered learning (SCL) in undergraduate courses. The champions of active versus passive/deep versus superficial learning are supported by those who press for reduced staff-student contact, larger classes, and more student centered activity on financial, resource, or managerial grounds. This article describes two approaches to distance learning and SCL.
