    Abstract

    Context: Universities are considered environments of innovation and knowledge dissemination, living laboratories where thinking minds are created. Objective: Due to its importance in urban development, this article seeks to analyze how the experience of sustainable university cities can contribute to the process of socio-environmental innovation throughout the city. Method: the methodology used was a case study with the University of Hamburg (HAW – Germany) which, from the creation of a living laboratory, aimed at developing strategic innovation actions the triple helix of sustainable development, creates solutions that involve the community, the university, decision makers and the business sector for the implementation of a sustainable and smart city. Results: The results obtained show that the partnership between different stakeholders and the University acting as a promoter of innovations means that projects aimed at the well-being of the population are created, in addition to creating a sense of belonging in the population, leading urban centers to become more sustainable and intelligent.
