Abstract

This chapter offers an approach to the phenomenon of forced displacement in the Greek world, inviting students and teachers to reflect on this problem today. Among other issues, the chapter addresses the question of mobility in the Greek world, including the problem of the terminology of forced displacement in ancient Greece, the situation of exiles (through the case of Oedipus in Oedipus at Colonus), the situation of deportees, evacuees and war refugees, especially during the Greco-Persian Wars and the Peloponnesian War, and the way in which the latter experience their situation.
