Abstract

This chapter offers an approach to poverty in ancient Greece and invites students and teachers to reflect on this phenomenon and its relevance today. Among other questions, this chapter deals with aspects such as the Greek conception of poverty, the way in which the beggar is presented by focusing in some famous beggars of the Greek world, the relationship between philosophy and poverty in ancient Greece, and utopic proposals to eradicate poverty.
