Abstract

Nic Groombridge’s book Sports Criminology, brings together a critical approach to sport and games. Groombridge links sports to wider criminological theory and covers a gamut of team and individual based sports, ranging from boxing, to motor racing, and American college sports. The criminology element is grounded in the long- established relationship that sport has with desistance from crime, and it is this element where my interest lies. This is not to say the book does not cover other elements of Sport Criminology, indeed, Groombridge discusses everything from celebrity and corruption, to match fixing and sport scandals, yet for purposes of this review, it is mostly sport violence, and desistance from crime that I will be discussing herein.
