    Abstract

This chapter outlines the different models that have been proposed in respect to police (crisis) negotiation (i.e., SAFE, Behavioural Change Stairway, STEPS, Cylindrical model of communication behaviour, etc.), with the aim of identifying their similarities and differences. The chapter particularly focuses upon the crisis context(s) these models most support/account for, before arguing for the integration of linguistic as well as psychological approaches so that the differences occasioned by context are suitably accounted for.
