    Abstract

In this paper we discuss an approach to iterative feedback directed compilation using Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and present an evaluation of the architectural independence of this compilation technique. Results are presented for the compilation of ADI, SHALLOW and TOMCATV benchmarks on an Philips TM1300 (VLIW), UltraSPARC and Pentium-III architectures. The work presented in this paper improves on our earlier research by i), evaluating architectural independence, and, ii), extending the transformation set considered by the GA to include loop-tiling, loop unrolling, loop-fusion, loop-fission and padding.
