Abstract
On 15 October 2023, at its 141st meeting held in Mumbai, India, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session approved changes to the Olympic Charter that had been proposed and recommended to it by the IOC Executive Board. The aim of these changes is to strengthen the IOC’s human rights commitments, as defined in the IOC Strategic Framework on Human Rights, by embedding them specifically in the Olympic Charter. The changes included amendments to the Fundamental Principles of Olympism and the introduction of a new Rule 40(2) of the Olympic Charter itself.
