    Abstract

Closed-form equations are presented for designing aperture-coupled microstrip antennas to ensure impedance matching with the feed network with a low return loss over a wide frequency band. The measured return loss is less than −10 dB over 17-20 GHz. The rare performance features (including compactness, integrability with printed circuits and shielding of the radiating patch from the radiation emanating from the feed structure) make these antennas arrays attractive for 5G/6G satellite-cellular communication applications spanning high-speed video streaming and mobile computing.
