Abstract
This October sees the opening of a major retrospective of works by Sir Edward Burne-Jones at Tate Britain. Southampton City Art Gallery is delighted to be lending six of its exquisite gouache studies to this exhibition. During this period the wood panelled walls of the Baring Room will become home for two works by the contemporary textile artist Alice Kettle. Depicting scenes from Homer’s Odyssey these large scale canvases will hang alongside the remaining four Perseus series studies, providing a visual contrast in mythological storytelling.
