Abstract
Interpreting for world leaders brings not just the thrill of involvement in crucial bilateral and international meetings but also, and more importantly, a range of professional challenges which are not always immediately apparent. In this chapter, the author examines the particular demands placed on such interpreters and the additional skills, attributes and knowledge required to perform the job competently. The chapter explores the nature of the work of diplomatic interpreters, while also discussing the less visible side of such work.
