    Abstract

Soccer, the most popular mass spectator sport in the world, is a game where humanity comes alive with one goal. But beyond its obvious entertainment aspect, the game has become a major social phenomenon since the late nineteenth century. Through the social prism of soccer, scholars across the world have tended to understand various aspects of life - politics, culture, economy, religion, aesthetics, media, tourism, and so on. Soccer & Society , the first international journal devoted to the game of soccer, aims to focus on the game in the context of a more global world, covering all aspects of soccer impacting society from a wide array of perspectives - anthropological, cultural, historical, sociological, political, economic and aesthetic. It intends to serve as an inter-disciplinary forum to respond to the ever-growing relationship between soccer and various significant areas of modern life. The journal intends to become truly international in terms of content, perspective and space. It is committed to encouraging original empirical research from scholars across the world.
