Abstract
The traditional Spanish cavalry world has transmitted us an extensive legacy of myths, legendary creatures, literary characters and historical events that have had different impact in our cultural and popular imaginary. In the specific case of videogames, there is a strong tradition of presence of the Anglo-Saxon Middle Ages, but what is the space occupied by our tradition? In this article, we answer this question and analyse how our tradition has been re-encoded by developers outside our culture, taken as basis and inspiration by national studios. We also focus on impact and possibilities of videogames as a cultural item from the point of view of the re-encoding and the construction in this industry of our cultural heritage forged during the Middle Ages.
