Abstract
The perception of a work’s authorship and ownership on the Internet has been disrupted by the mechanisms of shared construction, retransmission and recasting of cultural items. In the culture of hacking and sampling, the appropriation, reformulation and re-creation of content on the network is part of the regular activity of many of its users and is an axis of common cultural activities. In this context, there has been a tendency towards impersonation, simulation and imitation not only of works, but also of the authors themselves, all through social networks using resources to produce presence and to manage the personal space in virtual environments. These are sometimes impossible avatars, often made with the intention to honor or pay tribute to real people. In this paper we focus on the many Borges and Gómez de la Serna who inhabit Twitter as benchmarks to analyze and understand how these actions work and what motivates them.
