    Abstract

The paper assesses the desizing ability of H2O2 and sodium hydroxide for the development of a continuous desizing-scouring-bleaching process. Desizing refers to the removal of film-forming polymeric materials from the woven fabric at the beginning of the preparative treatments in the dyeing, printing and finishing mill. The common Size materials applied to the warp yarns as surface coatings to protect them during weaving are: Starch, Carboxymethyl cellulose and Polyvinyl alcohol. Laboratory experiments and a laboratory trial of the process were done through a comparison between enzymatic desizing and peroxide/caustic desizing processes. Good size removal was observed for Poplin and CVC desized with H2O2 and sodium hydroxide.
