This paper shows that – and how – Heidegger’s analysis of equipment in the 1920s is to be understood as an attempt to bring the presuppositions to light, and thus the original truth, of the Aristotelian inception of metaphysics. It is only from this perspective, the paper argues, that the ambiguous relation of Heidegger’s early analysis of equipment to his later questioning concerning technology can be adequately understood.
