    Abstract

Hexadecimal, or base 16, has been used as a computer language for decades. But much that has been written about the development both of the term hexadecimal and of the associated number system itself is incorrect. In this short article, we delve into the history of the term, the number system, and its notation, in order to offer a more complete (and accurate!) story of hexadecimal and to dispel some of the myths that have emerged along the way. So here are F, or fifteen, things you (probably) didn’t know about hexadecimal.
