Abstract

Informal flexibility appears to generate a reciprocal effort from employees, who are prepared to be flexible in return and go beyond their contract. We were asked by an NHS trust to explore the way flexible working was implemented. Our research focused on flexible working for the direct benefit of the employee, alternatively referred to as work-life balance or work-life integration.
