Abstract

Sets out the composition and activities of NoWAL, the North West Academic Libraries Consortium in the UK and describes its experience in making an e-books service available to users from netlibrary, a subsidiary of OCLC. Focuses on: the securing of agreement among the NoWAL partners; the selection of the collection; launching the service; the transition from implementation to management; refreshing the collection; and the setting up of an evaluation to be reported in 2006. Summarizes the lessons NoWAL members consider to have been drawn from the undertaking.
