Abstract

The paper explores the way friendship is represented in some film adaptations of Don Quijote. Friendship in Cervantes is a recurrent theme in his works. Cervantes uses pairs of friends as a literary technique to obtain a variety of effects. The paper looks at the representation of friendship recreated in film and how it differs from the original work with the implications this entails. The analysis of friendship is focused on the acclaimed adaptation of Don Quijote produced by Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón in 2002.
